At Managing Your Mind, our focus is on helping you attain a balanced mental state through mindfulness and meditation. It is in the coherence of the head-brain and the heart-brain that a sense of stability and peace can be regained. Peter has designed a program for individuals seeking peace of mind and a holistic approach to mental health. This process has proved itself with those who commit to renewing the way they think. Peter has been on this journey of discovery most of his life and more recently people have asked him for help to reduce the anxiety and stress that has increased in their lives. Most markedly are those who are approaching mid-life and fear for their future. Those people Peter has helped begin the mindfulness programme have continued and are visibly better.
I was in conversation with a 21-year-old man who said he had sought therapy aged 19. When he was three his parents divorced. His mother left home and his nurturing continued in his father’s home with his step-mother. This event inevitably compromised the normal or natural nurturing process. During his teen years he experienced insecurity and fear which caused him inner distress.
I asked him what other words he would use to describe this sense of insecurity. He used words such as ‘inferior’, ‘not good enough’, and ‘worthless.’ When asked to sum up these three descriptions with one word, he said ‘guilt.’ He felt guilty for not being good enough. As this young man began to intentionally follow the 4 steps, each day, learning to manage his thoughts, he began to come into a place of freedom from unsolicited guilt and build a new foundation of who he was, and how he saw himself as loved and fulfilled, free from seeking value and worth from other people, possessions or position.
This is just one testimony of a young man in today’s world. How many more young men and women grow up with this deep sense of insecurity?
“I have benefitted greatly from learning to spend time under the waterfall. Before I began to engage with the mindfulness programme taught by Peter, I was very ill with overwhelming anxiety. I was stressed and unable to think clearly. The belief that ‘I was not good enough,’ a consequence of my Catholic upbringing that I was not loved, accepted or valued by anyone including God, haunted my thinking. Finally it became an overwhelming issue now in my forties. The discipline of spending time under the waterfall, learning to deal with negative and accusatory thoughts is becoming a joyful habit and has transformed the way I think and feel about myself. I am developing a new joy filled state of being.”
